The best-of-five semis begin on Saturday 5 February
Defending champions Equity Hawks play Zetech Sparks while former champions Kenya Ports Authority (KPA) face Storms in the quest for a final berth and a chance to play in the FIBA Africa Zone Five Women's Club Championship.
It was a mis-match for Equity Hawks to play Africa Nazarene University (ANU) in the Kenya Basketball Federation (KBF) women's league quarters and their previous meetings pointed to a sweep. There were no surprises.
After going down 73-36 in Game One played last weekend, the Mike Aluoch coached students had nothing on the star-studded and experienced squad that Hawks lined up for Game Two and went down 66-33.
The bankers book a date with in-form Zetech Sparks, who played Eagle Wings for a 2-0 victory in the best-of-three quarters and are looking to make the final for the first time.
"We had a better match in Game Two against ANU compared to our first game. Our offense and defense worked and the players executed well. It is in matches like this that we get the chance to test all our players and I can say we are ready for the semis. We need to work on our defense ahead of the semis. Zetech are a fast team and to the only way to counter that is by scoring and that will be our game plan," said the bankers' technical director David Maina.
On their part, Storms put up a spirited fight to sweep University of Nairobi Dynamites, winning Game Two 75-59 to book a date with dockers who had a 2-0 series win over Strathmore Swords.
"Our opponent in the quarters did a good job, gave us a run for our monet especially in Game Two and the fight was a worth it. We head to the semis as the underdogs but we will give it our all," said Storms' head coach Abel Nson.
